"Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain"
Performed by Willie Nelson
Willie Nelson is a legend himself, but is also known among other legends. He has released songs with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Toby Keith, Kasey Musgraves, and Kenny Chesney, among many others. To sing with him would have to be an honor. He has performed for many years, with talented artists.
This song would never be the first one to come to mind when I think of Willie Nelson. He is much more well known for "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" and "On the Road Again," and "Whiskey River." However, he remains true to his sound in "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain."
This song seems very simple on the surface. It includes a few typical country instruments. It isn't the type of song to get up and dance to. There is a somber, sentimental tone to the song. It is a break-up song that lacks the usual anger aspect that is often contained in popular break-up songs. It rather focuses on the feelings of sadness that accompany the loss of someone you love.
I don't think I would ever choose to listen to this song just for the fun of it. However, Willie Nelson's songs are great ones to sing around the campfire.
Great insights Dakota. Fun fact, I think I served in the same mission as you. I could be wrong, but I served in the Wisconsin, Milwaukee mission and your name is really familiar! Anyways, I also love the way that this song portrays such serious topics and themes in a tender, down to earth way.
